Sermon: Be Not Conformed – 1 Samuel 8:10-22

One of the biggest temptations that we face each day is to give into being like every one else. Conformity can be great, but it all depends on to what we are conformed. The wrong form will lead to the wrong shape. All Christians are called to be conformed to the image of Christ, not the world.

In this week’s message we find that ancient Israel was not unlike nations today. With judgement being corrupted by the Samuel’s sons, the people recognized correctly that something must be done. However, when they approached Samuel with the issue, they did not ask for God’s guidance. Rather they jumped to a desire for a king like other nations. Even with God’s Law directing them in how to live and the prophets providing them specific guidance as needed, they still desired to be like other nations. It did not work out well.
